Branko achieved widespread recognition thanks to his continuous output of new music and his ability to turn his ideas into reality. As an artist, the three solo albums he released played a crucial role in showcasing his unique musical identity and vision, aided by iconic performances at renowned festivals. He also founded Buraka Som Sistema and Enchufada, forces that still shape the expression of electronic music today. João Barbosa's (Branko) continuously impact on the world greatly comes from his creative ability, using quite distinctive media: sound, visuals and live performance. As a DJ and visionary, he has contributed to BBC’s Radio 1 Residency as well as acclaimed global radio platform NTS and created the documentary series "Club Atlas" for RTP. We cannot deny the mark that Branko has already left on the Portuguese contemporary music scene. Despite this, and with another album on the way, "Soma", Branko shows no signs of slowing down.

A significant part of his cultural impact stems from his collaborations with both established and emerging talents. He has worked with notable artists such as MIA on her 2016 album "AIM", collaborated with Pierre Kwenders on his award-winning album "José Luis and The Paradox of Love" and played a crucial role in Mayra Andrade and Dino D’Santiago's continuously growing career. He has collaborated with producers like Sango, Mr. Carmack, Dengue Dengue Dengue, and global artists such as Princess Nokia and Zebra Katz.

In 2020, after the release of his acclaimed album "Nosso", Branko traveled around Portugal, recording DJ sets surrounded by unique landscapes and absorbing the inspiration that would lead him to compose "OBG". "I felt like I was back in my parents' attic in Amadora." He reached out to vocalists and producers from all over the world and composed singles such as "SRA" or the powerful "NAFÉ", featuring Cape Verdean artist ÉLLÀH.

He started a new chapter in a studio in Lisbon, where he gathered some of the most essential instrumentalists for three days. Each day was its own jam session, and it helped in assembling a repository of grooves that he would later reshape into his new album: "Soma," having already given us a taste with singles such as "Found My Way" with Carla Prata, "Agenda" with Bryte and "Nuvem'' with BIAB. "It was like night and day, from collaborating through Zoom to being surrounded by talent." Listening to each of these releases, it becomes clear how the potential of analog sound translates into a producer's playground. "Soma'' will be unveiled at Sónar Lisboa on March 24th." The intention is to bring the studio to the stage and show why this album really is "a sum of all its parts." A collaboration manifesto from the name that has already left its mark on contemporary Portuguese music and now invites the audience to join the session.
